Representative Christine Barber Endorses Judy Pineda Neufeld for Somerville City Council in Ward 7
Candidate for Ward 7 City Councilor Judy Pineda Neufeld has been endorsed today by State Representative Christine Barber. Rep. Barber has represented the 34th Middlesex district in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since 2015. Her district includes all of Somerville’s Ward 7, as well as Somerville’s Ward 4 and portions of Medford.
“I am proud to support Judy Pineda Neufeld for Ward 7 City Councilor,” said Representative Barber. “Judy knows us here in Ward 7, and has the experience to make real change in our communities. She has already been an incredible advocate for our immigrant neighbors as the head of Somerville’s Immigrant Services Unit, and as City Councilor she will ensure our most vulnerable populations can access the services they need as we make the long term recovery from Covid-19. I am so excited for Judy to bring her many years of expertise and leadership on issues of equity and justice to the Somerville City Council.”
“I am deeply honored to receive the support of Representative Barber,” said Neufeld. “She has been a true champion for progressive policy as Ward 7’s representative in the State House, and I am humbled to be endorsed by someone who cares so deeply about our community. I am looking forward to working hand in hand with Rep. Barber and the other members of Somerville’s state legislative delegation as City Councilor.”
Judy Pineda Neufeld is the daughter of immigrants, a small business owner, and a public servant to the City of Somerville. She is a strategic planner who has spent her career developing comprehensive plans for city departments and large national non-profits. She is seeking the open Ward 7 City Council seat currently held by Somerville mayoral candidate Councilor Katjana Ballantyne. Her campaign has been endorsed by a diverse group of Somerville community leaders, including Ward 7 School Committee Member Carrie Normand, former Ward 7 City Council Candidate and Boston Chief of Health and Human Services Marty Martinez, and Immigrant Advocate Benjamin Echevarria, among others.
